Arkitekten Ålesund begins at Storgata 23, one of eleven listed buildings in Ålesund. As owners, we document the work already carried out here and the projects still to come: the original condition, the dialogue with the heritage authorities, the choices made along the way, and the final result. The building is both our home base and a practical example of how historic architecture can be cared for and given new life.

Through a2b Design Partner AS, Arkitekten offers architectural services to property owners who need help navigating municipal, county, and heritage requirements. We assist with planning, applications, project delivery, and applications for financial support. We also collaborate with local craftspeople approved for work on protected buildings, bringing together the knowledge needed to preserve façades, materials, and details properly.

The public-facing part of Arkitekten asks a different question: why do people come to Ålesund? We want to give visitors the city itself: its buildings, architects, craftsmanship, and stories of rebuilding after the fire of 1904. From the shop at Storgata 23, we are developing interactive audio walks and objects connected to the routes, from maps, prints, sketchbooks, and puzzles to models, books, clothing, and locally made products.
